(WXYZ) - Metro Detroit will get a chance to get a closer look into the lives of Walter Reuther and Victor Reuther and their role in the UAW.

A new documentary delves into the lives of the brothers and how they impacted American history. The two helped transform the UAW into one of the most powerful unions in the world.

Victor’s grandson, Sasha Reuther is the filmmaker behind the project.

“It actually started out because we had such great archival footage and a lot of oral history from the family that I really had the archival speak for itself,” he says.

The film is narrated by Martin Sheen. Part the it describes for viewers what auto workers went through during their sit-down days.

The documentary will kick off the Uptown Film Festival in Birmingham at the Birmingham 8 Theater Thursday March 8th at 8 pm.
