(WXYZ) - Jimmy Kimmel Live is urging Americans to get rid of their unwanted friends, on Facebook.  That’s right, Thursday, November 17th is National UnFriend Day or NUD.

This is your chance to rid your Facebook page of people who comment on uninteresting and inappropriate topics.  If you are tired of knowing about their life, or how bored they are, dump them.  After all it is a national holiday.

Kimmel believes your Facebook page should have no more than three or four people tops.  That might be a little too extreme for some people.  But you should unload people you’ve never met or never even heard of before.

"These people are not your friends," says Kimmel. "No one has 2,000 friends."

Still not sure who on Facebook you might want to UnFriend? Well, Jimmy breaks it down for you.

“Get rid of those people who are not actually friends.”

“Ask yourself this,” says Kimmel. “Do I like like them or do I just “like button” like them, then cut them loose like that person you went out on three terrible dates with six years ago.

You can watch “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” at 12:00am week nights on 7.
