CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP(WXYZ) - Two people have been killed in a deadly accident on eastbound I-94 in Chesterfield Township that shut down part of the freeway several hours.

The multi-vehicle crash happened around 2:00 a.m. just south of 23 mile road in Chesterfield Township.

Police say as many as four vehicles and a semi were involved.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. It's not clear if the cars triggered the accident, or if the semi jack knifed first.

Several people were taken to the hospital. The extent of the injuries isn't clear.

Police will only say that a man and a woman were killed in the crash.
