(WXYZ) - Some dads know life’s little secrets; like how to oil and bake your baseball mitt to perfection. Others give us the words we need to ask for her hand in marriage or to nail the big job interview.

Sunday we’ll celebrate dad, so we want to know, “What’s the best advice your dad ever shared with you?” Leave a tribute to your dad in the comments section below and for inspiration check out the responses we've received from members of the WXYZ news team and from some of our friends on Facebook.

To always do the right thing, even if it hurts!

My dad told me when I was little that people will hurt you, even those that love you... remember how it feels and try not to hurt others.
Diane Burke

My dad has given me lots of good advice, for example, “Don’t ever think you are better than you really are” and “Give everything you have in everything you do, so you don’t have any regrets.”

The best advice my dad ever gave me is, “If you don’t make things happen for yourself, no one else will. You are the only one who can control your future!”

Since I was young, Jimbo (my dad) has reminded me to “Play like a champion today,” and to “Give your best, no matter what you’re doing,” he’s a smart man.

My dad always told me, “Work hard and you’ll be greatly rewarded,” encouraging me to do the best I could and to take pride in the outcome. He let me know that good things happen when you do your best.

The best advice my dad ever gave me wasn't put to words. He taught me through his actions that there is no substitute for hard work.  Always arriving early to his job, staying late until the work is done, and consistently making time for his family. My dad is the hardest working person I know.

Investigative Producer/Reporter

Family first! My dad makes a point to show his five grown children how important we all are. He always expresses the importance of putting family first. Here are just a few bits of advice I try to live by: "Stop and think before you say hurtful things that you can't take back," and "Having things will never compare to having heart."
