DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Automotive industry will need nearly 200,000 new workers over the next four years and that's great news for Michigan's economy.
The Center for Automotive Research, based in Ann Arbor, is estimating that the industry will add 60,000 jobs next year.
CAR estimates that the industry will add 190,000 by the end of 2015. Dr. Sean McAlinden says more than 100,000 will be needed in the supplier sector.
CAR based its projections on the new contract agreements between the Detroit Three and the UAW.
"Even if we only get back to the the 14 million sales level, in a couple of years, suppliers will need 150,000," says McAlinden.
Kristin Dziczek, directs the Labor Group for CAR and says this is a very good thing for Michigan.
"We're going to have more employment in the Detroit Three, and more of that employment will be concentrated in Michigan. That's good for the Michigan economy," she says.
