DETROIT (WXYZ) - Cadillac has unveiled their first electric vehicle, the Cadillac ELR at the North American International Auto Show.

The vehicle uses the same Extended Range Electric Vehicle technology as the Chevy Volt. The vehicle is based on the Converj Concept that was unveiled at the 2009 North American International Auto Show.

Cadillac projects the ELR will have a range of 300 miles when you combine the electric drive and the range-extending generator. However, the company says most daily commutes will not require the car to flip over the the range-extending generator.

The ELR will also feature a number of Cadillac luxury systems, including the CUE voice recognition system with Navigation and an advanced suspension system.

Production is set to begin in late 2013, with the ELR hitting dealerships in 2014 .
