(WXYZ) - As the automakers shift more and more of their production toward hybrids and electrification, the battery industry is exploding. Much of the future technology is on display during an Expo currently underway at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Battery production is a $6 billion dollar industry and is projected to grow.
The Michigan Economic Growth Corporation lured the show here from San Jose as it tries to position our state as the leader in battery technology. Jodi Mashburn, of AVL located in Plymouth, says the show is a great way to reach manufacturers. "We do everything from designing components to testing them" said Mashburn.
Joel Bias, an engineer for General Motors, tells Action News that it is important for engineers to stay on the cutting edge "to see the latest technology, to find ways to make batteries lighter and more cost efficient."
The Advanced Battery Expo and Conference continues Wednesday and Thursday at the Suburban Collection ShowPlace, in Novi. It is free for the public to attend.
