ROYAL OAK. Mich. (WXYZ) - When it comes to battling the cruisers on Woodward or the traffic that comes along with it, the McDonough family picks the lesser of both evils.
“If you join them you see it from a close distance. It’s always easiest to come here,” said Sheryl McDonough.
Here, is the family home on Linwood Avenue in Royal Oak. Sheryl’s father decided to take advantage of how close they lived to Woodward and have a party, at the party, for the past 17 years.
“I’m very into cars. I love being here. I have one myself,” said Tim McDonough. “It’s a ‘67 Corvette. It has a 327 in it. I had it 33 years now.”
Tim’s daughter Sheryl flew in from Chicago Thursday night just for the Woodward Dream Cruise.
“It’s kind of gotten bigger and bigger every year. You don’t know if you’re going to miss something so you don’t want to miss anything,” said Sheryl.
When you live where they do, you stay parked for most of the weekend.
“Of course it’s going to take a while to get out but it’s not that bad,” said Tim.
That is because over the years the family has learned a thing or two about what to do, or not to do, if you want to join the party.
“If you’re not going to cruise, I wouldn’t even come down this far,” said Tim.
“We always say cruise in the morning because there are not a whole lot of people out there. If you want to go out there you better hope you have a full tank of gas because you’ll idle a whole half a mile, and then you’ll just come right back home,” advised Sheryl.
