(WXYZ) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wants to curb what you can do while driving.
NHTSA is concerned about the technology being built into vehicles. The government says the gadgets are aggravating the problem of distracted driving, not solving it.
NHTSA wants the automakers to adopt guidelines that require drivers to stop and put their vehicles in park before they could use any phones or gadgets.
The list would include GPS units, phones, text messaging, and web surfing.
Automakers are building the technology in to dashboards, to alleviate the dangers of drivers being distracted while trying to dial or text on hand held phones. The government is concerned that the dashboards are still too distracting to be handled safely while driving.
