LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) - If you have been looking for a job longer than you expected, you may be thinking about becoming your own boss by starting a small business.

Good Morning America contributor and small business guru Tory Johnson said you should answer several strategy questions first.

1)      What will you sell and to whom will you sell it?

2)      What can you charge and how much money can you make?

3)      What is your hustle?

We asked Tory what she meant by “your hustle.”

"That's your marketing and sales strategy -- how are you going to make this all happen,” explained Johnson.  “A lot of people have really great ideas for products and services; they see really big number signs in terms of those dollars that they're going to bring in. And yet they're not focused on how they're going to actually make that first sale. So those are the things that you want to focus on initially."

Johnson has a new book out that explores these ideas.  It’s entitled Spark & Hustle: Launch and Grow Your Small Business Now.

She tells people who are dreaming of starting their own business that they don’t have to have advanced degrees to be successful.

"I dropped out of college, and I started two multi-million-dollar businesses without any kind of formal training whatsoever,” said Johnson. “ In fact sometimes we all joke that it's a good thing we didn't have that formal training. We probably would have been too scared to just take the plunge and just go after it. “

Johnson is launching a 20-city “Spark & Hustle” tour where she will talk more about how you can grow a small business.  She said people can come to grill her with business start-up questions as well.

“It's really focused on two areas: content and connections,” said Johnson.

"All of the content that we deliver is very much focused on helping you make moves immediately. So it's all about putting together that one-page plan to help you start hustling right away.  And then just the connections are amazing -- people that we bring together under one roof become your clients and customers, your collaborators and your champions,” said Johnson. “These are the people that are going to help you get to that victory that you're looking for."
