(WXYZ) - JC Penney has pulled a controversial girls t-shirt from their website after it raised a firestorm of controversy.
The shirt read: "I'm too pretty to do homework so my brother has to do it for me."
The shirt was only available online. A spokeswoman for the retailer told ABCNews.com "We've immediately discontinued sales of that T-Shirt. We agree that it does not deliver an appropriate message and we've immediately discontinued its sale. We want to apologize to our customers.
The shirt was being sold for $9.99 to girls between the ages of 7 and 16. Soon after it became available outraged customers began an online petition addressed to the company's Chairman and CEO.
JC Penney says it doesn't know home many of the shirts, which were produced under the Self Esteem brand, were sold.
