(WXYZ) - Kroger is launching a new effort to promote locally produced foods by putting Michigan made products front and center in their stores.
As part of the effort they are partnering with Pure Michigan.
Shoppers tell Action News they are pleased to see the new effort. Shopping with her children, Riley and Avery, Rachel Gooch says she will try to buy more local products. "Definitely, to keep local farmers going and to help them keep their livelihoods."
The effort is part of Kroger's commitment to Governor Rick Snyder's efforts to raise awareness about locally produced foods and the effect they have on Michigan's economy. Ray Stroinski says that he has always tried to buy locally. "I've always lived here and it is important to keep the money around here."
As part of the effort Kroger will emphasis Pure Michigan products in local stores by using displays and shelf tags. The grocery chain will also use special Experience Pure Michigan destination displays.
Kroger's efforts will be highlighted in a new Pure Michigan commercial, which will begin airing next week.
