(WXYZ) - The Garden Theater in Detroit will once again blossom thanks to a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
The MEDC is providing the seed money for the renovation for the building, located on Woodward near the Cass Corridor.
The state is providing a grant of $750,000 toward what will eventually be a $12 million dollar development.
The renovated Garden Theater will have 1300 seats and be home to live music and other entertainment. The auditorium could also host business conferences.
The Garden was originally built in 1912. It closed as a theater in 1949. In the 1950's it was used as a nightclub. It deteriorated into an adult theater in the 1960's.
Eventually, developers are hoping to grow more retail and office space in the area.
