(WXYZ) - When a Detroit resident had her monthly financial support stolen from her mailbox, she contacted our Call For Action Team. Recovering her funds as soon as possible was the goal. Sandra Jones didn't know what to do. She felt helpless.
Jones said, "I called DHS and wanted to know where my check was? They told me they had sent it and it was already cashed. I didn't cash it so I knew somebody stole it."
Without the money she wouldn’t be able to support the five girls she adopted earlier this year. Those girls range in ages from five to thirteen.
She was scared and with good reason because these girls depend on her. She says DHS told her they would have to review the case as they do with all cases like this. However, the problem for Sandra is that she was told the soonest she could get her money would be six to twelve months.
There was no way she could survive so she called us for help. "I watch 7 Action News I knew you could help me," said Jones.
She told our team her story and about a week later she was given the good news that a check was ready for her.
We thank DHS for taking care of this situation for Sandra!
