(WXYZ) - Michelle Blankenbaker starts the engine on her 1995 Chevy Tahoe, but at the same time, she takes a deep breath and says a silent prayer, because Michelle knows she ‘s driving a death trap.

  • Oh there’s plenty wrong with this particular vehicle.
  • The drivers-side door is almost impossible to get into.
  • The whole, front end of the truck is about to fall off.
  • The transmission slips in and out of gear.

But by far the worst part is that the gas tank and the gas line are both leaking like crazy. Gas just pours out and runs along the entire undercarriage of this truck.

In fact, Michelle carries several cans of gasoline with her on every trip, just so she doesn’t run out of gas on the road.

The worst part is that Michelle and her husband Keith have no choice but to drive this vehicle, because Keith is battling 4th-stage liver disease and he must go to the doctor’s office 4-to-5 times a week.

The Blankenbakers don’t have the money to buy another car, new or used, because Keith hasn’t been able to work for 4-years and his wife must stay at home to take care of him.

So now, the couple’s 17-year old-truck, with 130,000 miles on it, leaking gas line and all, is all they have to get Keith to the doctors.

So tonight, the Call for Action team is asking for your help.

We are looking for someone, a private individual, a small car dealer or a large new car dealer to help us get Keith a car that runs.

That ‘s all, we are not looking for a new car, just something that runs well.

If you think you’d like to help us, please contact me at bspencer@wxyz.com .

I have been working on this case for months now, and I am sorry to say that so far I’ve come up empty.
