(WXYZ) - Kerry Cacchione, her three children and her husband Jeff are coming home for the first time, walking through their Howell, Michigan home for the first time since it was nearly devoured by flames seven weeks ago.
Wiping away tears she says, “It’s devastating, I see everything that is no longer here, everything our family has cherished over the past 20 years - our belongings, our treasures, there’s nothing here.”
Yes, the Cacchiones lost everything and the deep loss is clearly painted across their faces.
To make matters worse, the Cacchiones – Kerry, Jeff, and their kids, 17-year-old Jenna, 16-year-old Emily and 10-year-old Andrew - had no insurance. You see, they were renting the 4 bedroom house they have been living in for the last year and when they lost it all, they lost it for good.
The Cacchiones thought they’d been punished enough. But just weeks after the fire, they got a huge bill in the mail from Charter Communications, demanding they pay for the Charter equipment destroyed in the blaze - a bill, to pay for the cable-TV equipment that was lost in the fire.
Devastated by the fire, and unable to pay that $1,600 bill, the Cacchiones decided to take the official fire report to Charter Communications and beg for the bill to be forgiven. However, they were unable to make any headway.
That’s when Kerry and Jeff called the Call for Action team for help.
Immediately, we contacted top officials at Charter. We explained exactly what the Cacchiones had been living through and just days later, Charter Communications decided to wipe out that $1,600 bill.
Kerry and Jeff were thrilled! But they are still struggling. They have found a place to live, but still need furniture - things like beds, couches, tables, lamps and so on.
