(WXYZ) - At first glance, Mike Culver looks like a rock musician. What he’s really trying to do is rock the warped and violent world of bullying in schools by forcing kids to face the problem head-on.

Most importantly - by doing something about it.

In the United States a recent survey shows that 5 out of every 10 students now admits to having bullied someone else.

Culver calls his bully prevention program “The Bully Truth” and he begins by breaking the entire student population into three distinct groups.

Culver teaches the kids that there are the bullies themselves, the victims of bullies and the bystanders.

Out of those three groups, he says, the most powerful group is the group with the power to actually put an end to bulllying completely - the bystanders.

Culver says, “In my six years as Vice Principal of Discipline, I’ve learned the bystanders are the largest most powerful group of kids in the building. They outnumber the bullies by a landslide and if they do the right thing and step in and stop the bully, report the problem to their teachers, comfort the victim and don’t support the bully by laughing or cheering him or her on, than they can completely end the bully problem in that school."

A talented guitarist and singer, Culver also uses music to teach the victims of bullying that they can get through this brutal period in their lives.

He backs that up by teaching the kids that some of today’s biggest stars were bullied as children. Powerful people like movie star Christian Bale, fashion model Tyra Banks and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.

Culver does some powerful demonstrations to make his points clear, but the bottom line message is this: “It’s the kids that actually see bullying going on in any school, it’s those kids that need to stop it by getting involved.”

“Tell your kids, it’s just not okay to do nothing," Culver says. "Starting tomorrow, become part of the solution, instead of the problem.”
