13-year-old boy says a man tried to abduct him in Armada Township

ARMADA TOWNSHIP (WXYZ) - A 13-year-old boy said a man tried to abduct him in Armada Township, according to police.

The Michigan State Police say the incident happened on Thursday, November 15 at 5:50 p.m. when the boy was walking near North Avenue and Irwin Street.

The boy told police the suspect approached him in a 2002/2003 maroon Ford Taurus and tried to convince him to get into his vehicle.  Police say the boy refused and ran home as the vehicle sped away northbound on North Avenue.

"Makes me want to watch my kids closer than I already do," said Donnie Arnold. She lives close to where the incident happened. She said she moved back to Armada Township because of it's reputation for being a safe community. "I live here because I don't feel Li have to worry about it as much."

Police describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 35 years old with blond hair and a muscular build. He was wearing a fishing-style floppy hat and white t-shirt.

"It's a small community.  Most kids live right in the area," said Ricky Robbins.  He also lives nearby where the attempted abduction happened.  There is an elementary school, middle school, and high school about a mile to two miles away from the area.

Neighbors said they are still in disbelief about the situation.

"Not in Armada, it's a really quiet, safe, community as far as I'm concerned," said Robbins. It's kind of surprising."

"It's always been a very safe community," said Arnold.
