CANTON, Mich. (WXYZ) - "They were best friends", says the sister of Danielle Beavers who was killed along with Brooke Kennedy when the friend who was driving them home apparently failed to stop a flashing red light, causing a horrific crash in Canton Township early this morning.
The 24-year-old friend was driving Beavers, 19, and Kennedy, 18, in his yellow Chevrolet Cavalier when he crossed into the path of a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
"I had the blinking yellow", says Jevarias Snowden who was heading home from work in his Monte Carlo around 2:10 a.m.
The crash happened at Michigan Avenue and Canton Center Road.
Andrea Beavers tells 7 Action News that her sister and Kennedy were best friends who worked together at Ruby Tuesday in Canton.
Andrea says her sister was working double shifts at the restaurant to save up for a car and college. She graduated from Belleville High School in 2011 and was the youngest of three girls in the family.
Brooke Kennedy is also a recent graduate of Belleville High School.
We're told Danielle's parents are on disability, so relatives are trying to set up a fund for funeral expenses.
Their 24-year-old friend, who was driving them home after they all attended a going away party for another friend, is now recovering at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital.
The family is asking for assistance with funeral expenses, "The Danielle Beavers Memorial Fund",
