DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police say a  boy  drowned in a pool at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn Friday.

A family was celebrating someone's birthday at the hotel while enjoying the pool.  They looked away from the 5-year-old Harper Woods boy at just the wrong moment.  They didn't see him fall below the surface.

They don't know how long he had been under water when they found him on the bottom of the pool. It may not have been long. Studies have found that drowning can happen in seconds, especially when the victim is young.

He was pulled from the pool, and a doctor who happened to be at the hotel performed CPR. The child was transported to Henry Ford Hospital in Dearborn, where he was later pronounced dead.
