7 things to do this Labor Day weekend around metro Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) -  If you’re looking for something to do this Labor Day, there are plenty of happenings to choose from around metro Detroit. Here is a list of seven festivals, fairs and events that run over Labor Day weekend.

1.  Arts Beats & Eats

Ford Arts, Beats & Eats presented by Citizens Bank will run from August 31 to September 3. It will run daily from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., except for Monday, September 3 when the festival will end at 9:00 p.m. There will be more than 200 performances running over the course of the weekend with a variety of local restaurants selling their cuisine. There will also be art displayed throughout. Tickets are $3, most of the proceeds will be donated to charity. Read more about the festival here.

2. Detroit International Jazz Festival

The Detroit International Jazz Festival runs from August 31 to September 3. The festival will span over several city blocks from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius. Headliners for this year's festival include Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter and many more. Read more about the festival here.

3.  Hamtramck Labor Day Festival

The 2012 Hamtramck Labor Day Festival runs September 1 to September 3 from noon to 10 p.m. The festival will have entertainment, food and carnival rides. The Hamtramck Yacht Races will take place on Monday along with the Hamtramck Polish Day Parade and a kielbasa eating contest.

4. Belle Isle Aquarium and Conservatory

It is the first holiday weekend that the Belle Isle Aquarium and Conservatory will be open. The aquarium opened on Saturday, August 18 for its 108th birthday. Admission is free. The doors are open on the first Sunday of each month and the second and third Saturdays of each month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information go to belleisleconservancy.org .

5. Renaissance Festival

The Michigan Renaissance Festival is in full swing. The medieval festivities started in Holly on Friday, August 18 and run through September 30. There are many events and entertainers that run through the weekend with craft and food booths throughout the festival grounds. Tickets at the gates for adults are $20.95, children (ages 5-12) $11.95, seniors (65+) $18.95 and students with a valid college ID $18.95. Click here for more information.

6.  Michigan Peach Festival of Romeo

The Michigan Peach Festival runs August 30 through September 3 in the Village of Romeo. Besides the entertainers and carnival rides, Romeo will have a slew of events Labor Day weekend. From the Floral Parade to car and craft shows, Romeo is a family-friendly Labor Day weekend destination. 7.  Great Lakes State Fair at the Suburban Collection Showplace

The fair runs from August 31 to September 3 at the Suburban Collection Showplace located at 46100 Grand River Avenue. The fair will feature Michigan made products, games and rides, entertainers and livestock areas. A fair only ticket for livestock and indoor exhibits are $6.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.
