Seventy Michigan communities missed sending out absentee ballots in time for the August 7 primary.

The Michigan Secretary of State says the ballots were supposed to be mailed to military members and people overseas at least 45 days before the election.

The clerks who missed the deadline could be required to extend the deadline to count ballots.

Nine cities in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties missed the deadline. The nine cities are Clawson, Ferndale, Armada, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Melvindale, Plymouth, Taylor and Woodhaven.
