WXYZ - Right now, the city of Royal Oak is making a change that hasn't been done since the 1950's.
City officials announced they're rebranding the town, and it starts with a new logo that was unveiled at the state of the city address by Mayor Jim Ellison on Tuesday.
According to reports, the rebranding project has been in the works for a while.
The city hired Ideation Signs and Communications to help come up with a new marketing identity.
They created a new logo (shown on the left) and a city tagline, which says, "Life Now Playing."
Designers of the logo say the line connecting the "R" and the "O" is meant to represent Woodward Avenue. And the circle surrounding the logo signifies Royal Oak's central location in Metro Detroit.
The logo is expected to appear on stationery, business cards, banners, city vehicles, and gateway signs. It's also expected to appear on city websites, social media platforms and city buildings.
The city is also releasing a number of departmental icons to help uniquely identify various city departments and committees around town.
