DETROIT (AP) - A former chief executive of the Detroit Medical Center has made it official that he plans to run for mayor of Detroit this year.

Mike Duggan said Tuesday evening that he's running because he wants to help the city he loves.

The former Democratic Wayne County prosecutor says he'll use his managerial and government experience to help turn around Detroit's finances and improve poor public services.

Republican Gov. Rick Snyder is considering whether to appoint an emergency financial manager for Detroit. Last week, a state-appointed review team found Detroit was in a financial emergency.

Several others have announced plans to run or are looking at a run. Democratic Mayor Dave Bing was elected in 2009 to a four-year-term and could seek re-election.
