(DETROIT) - Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal accident that unfolded Thursday morning on I-96 near Southfield.

According to witnesses, a vehicle was traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes of I-96 when it collided with another vehicle.

The driver in the westbound lanes was pronounced dead on the scene.

The wrong-way driver, who has not been identified, was transported to Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit where he is listed in critical condition.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
