SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - It’s a moment Laura Downey will never forget, one second she was on the way to pick up her 1 year old baby, the next she was covered in blood and being cut out of her car.
At just 21 years old Laura was at a stop sign when a driver t-boned her car going 60 miles an hour. The accident ruptured her spleen, bruised her kidneys and liver, shattered her pelvis and left Laura in a wheel chair. Now almost a month later Laura is still in the hospital recovering from her injuries.
Once a woman who worked with special needs adults, at a specialty adult care center 40-to-50 hours a week, now Laura cannot work and with zero health insurance to pay her growing medical bills, now she is in real trouble.
Laura’s friends and loved ones have formed a group called "Love For Laura." They are also putting together a fundraising dinner. The money will help pay her medical bills and hopefully replace her demolished car.
The "Love for Laura fundraising dinner will be held this coming Monday, November 22nd at “The Royalty House” in Warren at 13 Mile and Chicago from 4:30 to 8:30 pm.
Admission is just $12 and will include live music dinner and dessert.
