(WXYZ) - A nationwide sweep has resulted in the rescue of 79 children who had been forced to participate in underage prostitution.
The three-day long FBI operation, which was conducted as the sixth Operation Cross Country, also resulted in the arrest of 104 alleged pimps on prostitution related charges.
Locally six children; five girls and one boy all between the ages of 13 and 17, were rescued. They have been been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
Twenty-seven people were also arrested locally on a number of different charges. All of the arrests were made in Madison Heights, Sterling Heights, Troy and Southfield.
The local task force included Detroit, Roseville, Southfield, Highland Park and Michigan State Police, as well as officers from the Wayne County Sheriff's Officer, the Department of Corrections and Macomb County's M.A.C.E.
