During the news conference, Griem answered a number of questions from journalists on the intricate details in Jane Bashara's murder investigation.
When asked why he took the case, Griem said that three or four people told him about what an outstanding citizen Bashara is and how he is greatly involved in the community.
Regarding potential charges in the case against Bashara, Griem simply responded, "I still believe he [Bashara] will not be charged."
In reference to Bashara's alleged mistress, Griem made the comment, "All I know about Rachel is that Rachel and Bob Bashara were friends. For a number of reasons I did not inquire any further about that."
When asked about the relationship between Bashara and Joseph Gentz – the lone individual in police custody – Griem responded, “I don’t know that they [Bashara and Gentz] knew each other but Joe certainly knew where Bob lived and Jane pulled into the driveway and according to police, pulled into the garage. And if Joe was hanging out looking for Bob and he sees someone pull into that garage, my guess is that someone like Joe – as described by those three women who were interviewed – certainly wouldn’t just hung around the shadows, he would have confronted Jane.”
