(WXYZ) - The community of Farmington Hills is holding a benefit for the Cipriano family.

The community is planning a 5K run and walk to benefit the Cipriano Children's Trust Fund. The event will be held on Friday, June 8th at 6:30pm at the Farmington Hills YMCA.

“The event is truly a grassroots effort to unite the community. It started as an idea from one of Rose’s neighbors and quickly took hold in the hearts of many whom then formed the event committee,” says Jenny Birmelin, Cipriano Classic Co-chair.

You must register by May 25th and you will be given a race t-shirt which is white and chosen as a sign of hope for healing and for love to conquer. The 5K event is open to everyone and those who attend can either walk or run through the community course.

“We are grateful beyond words for everyone supporting and loving our family, even those who don’t know us,” says Beth Trahan, Rose Cipriano’s sister. “Bob enjoyed running and was known by the high school teams he coached for running his players. If he was with us, I know he would be leading the run and encouraging everyone to give it their best.”

The cost to register is from $25 to $30. You can register online or apply at the Farmington Family YMCA at 28100 Farmington Road in Farmington Hills.
