(WXYZ) - Bobby Ferguson’s lawyer is firing back at the government – arguing that the feds are trying to distort facts to “jack up” Ferguson’s prison sentence.
Lawyer Gerald Evelyn is asking the judge to sentence the convicted contractor to no more than 10 years in prison.
A jury convicted Ferguson and his friend, former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, on racketeering, bribery and other charges in March.
Federal prosecutors are asking that the judge lock Ferguson up for about 28 years.
Evelyn also gave the judge 12 letters of support and slammed the media and the feds for blaming Kilpatrick and Ferguson for Detroit’s bankruptcy.
Kwame Kilpatrick will be sentenced on Thursday morning. Ferguson will learn his fate Friday morning.
