(WXYZ) - The Detroit Police Department says a body has been found in a manhole on Detroit's east side.
Police say the victim was looking for scrapping materials underground with his girlfriend. The girlfriend tells police the 55-year-old man went into the manhole and never resurfaced.
Sources say the man went missing underground on April 9, but his girlfriend did not report it until Wednesday afternoon.
Sources also tell 7 Action News that the man had been arrested several times in the past for scrapping.
Authorities were able to retrieve the body on Wednesday.
