(WXYZ) - Broadcasting legend Sonny Eliot has died at the age of 91.
Sources confirm with 7 Action News Eliot, whose given name was Marvin Scholssberg died peacefully in his home Thursday night in Farmington Hills.
Eliot retired from WWJ Radio in September of 2010 after 60 years in the business.
“I’m looking forward to whiling away the hours conferring with the flowers and consulting with the rain,” said Eliot. “I hope I’ll be missed.”
Many of us remember his humorous and high-paced weather forecasts and one-liners.
Eliot, who was also a former World War II pilot, took part in radio programs like "The Green Hornet" and "The Lone Ranger."
“Sonny is a true legend in this community and a major part of Detroit’s history,” Debbie Kenyon, CBS RADIO Detroit Senior Vice President and Market Manager said about his retirement. “His sense of wit and wisdom is a big part of WWJ’s history. We’ve grown up watching Sonny on TV and hearing him on the radio. His sense of humor will be missed.”
