SOUTHFIELD, Mich (wxyz) - Candlelight vigils were held at Lawrence Tech University and in the city of Dearborn Heights to show love and support for the people of Newtown, Connecticut and especially for those who lost precious loved ones.
At Lawrence Tech, a candle was lit for every victim and a flower was placed on a rock that read 'Sandy Hook' as each name was read.
They prayed silently and sang "Amazing Grace." One mom brought her children, saying it is like going to a funeral.
In Dearborn Heights, the community came together at Ford Road and Beach Daly with a sign that said "We are heartbroken." Children also carried signs with the names of the victims on them. They also lit candles.
More vigils are planned and organizers say it is a way for people to come together and share their grief. Even though this tragedy happened hundreds of miles away, many say it feels like it happened here.
