DETROIT, MI (WXYZ) - Chrysler announced Friday that the company will add 900 new jobs at their Sterling Heights assembly plant.
In a press release just put out, the company says they will add a new shift at the plant that only a year ago was slated for closure.
As a result of the added shift Chrysler says 500 additional jobs will be created at suppliers.
Governor Jennifer Granholm issued the following statement after the announcement was made:
“Chrysler’s announcement today that it will keep its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant open past its scheduled 2012 closing date is the best news of the summer," says Granholm.
"This is a project that we and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation have worked on long and hard along with Macomb County, the city of Sterling Heights and many others. The fact that the more than 1,000 workers at the plant will keep their jobs, and a second shift of another 900 workers will be added in 2011, is a tremendous economic boost. This is a fabulous day for Chrysler and Michigan."
