Detroit Public Schools opens enrollment for district's specialty schools

DETROIT (AP) - Student enrollment applications are being accepted for specialty and high-achieving schools in Detroit.

The Detroit Public Schools says Friday is the first day applications for the 2013-14 academic year will be accepted for 21 schools.

The application period runs through March 18 for schools that include Burton International Academy, Communication and Media Arts High School, Davis Aerospace Technical High School, Detroit International Academy for Young Women, and Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine.

Late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply to more than one school

Families of current district students, newly enrolling students or students attending school in other districts can apply.

Open enrollment for non-application schools runs April 10 through April 30. The district's All Schools Open House is scheduled for April 20.
