DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - Friends and family are saying goodbye to a beloved Detroit priest known as "The Bishop of Poletown."

On Monday, parishioners celebrated the life and legacy of Father Francis Skalski.  He served at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church for 36 years.

Many who knew Father Francis say he fought to keep the church vital as well as the Polish culture and tradition.

Father Francis Skalski died Wednesday at the age of 81.
