FLINT, Mich. (WXYZ) - On Tuesday night in Flint, family and friends came together in support of Amir Hekmati.

His family hasn't heard from the former Marine for several months. Hekmati's has been held in Iran since August of 2011.

The Iranian government accused Hekmati of being a spy--which his family denies.

Hekmati's father had surgery to remove a brain tumor last week.  He's afraid he'll die before seeing his son again.

The family is pleading with Tehran for mercy.

Amir Hekmati was sentenced to death back in January, but that was later overturned.  Iran's Supreme Court has ordered a retrial for Hekmati.
