(WXYZ) - Sunsearae Hall’s heart remains shattered as she pieces together what happened Saturday.
Over the weekend ,a gunman took her child away from her.
“It doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t make sense,” said Sunsearae.
The gunman opened fire while 12-year-old Kenis Green, his siblings, and cousins were all playing outside.
“He didn’t drive by,” said Kenis’ uncle Willie Hall. “They said he drove up and stopped. Then shot the house and then he pulled back off.”
Family Members told 7 Action News the gunman accused Sunsearae’s boyfriend, 26-year-old Greg Owens, of flirting with the gunman’s girlfriend the day before the shootings.
Sunsearae said she had just gotten home when the shooting happened.
“They started yelling ‘Greg got shot, Greg got shot.’ So I jumped out of the car to try to help him cause he was walking toward the car and I was trying to help him in,” said Sunsearae. “Then they started yelling: 'your baby'… and I went and held him.”
Greg was shot in the stomach, and is now in the hospital and Kenis was shot in the head.
Kenis was excited about starting school this week. The family had just moved back to Detroit from Ohio over the summer.
He would have been an 8th grader and he was a lineman for the Detroit Dolphins football team.
Now, loved ones are trying to explain his untimely death when they don’t even understand it themselves.
We’re going to counseling tomorrow,” said Willie. “I don’t know what to say. All the kids were there. We’re all going to counseling. I don’t know what to tell them… at all.”
Police confirm they have someone in custody, though that person has not been arrested.
Investigators are waiting for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office to issue a warrant.
Meanwhile, Kenis will be laid to rest on Sunday. The family is hoping to raise money for funeral costs.
