CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - UPDATE: 7 Action News has been told that missing teen Cody Stine has been found.
Police say he was found hiding in a friend's basement. They have not said if he had been staying anywhere else during the 8 days he was missing.
Stine has been returned to his family and is reportedly in good condition.
Saturday night seventy volunteers handed out flyers and searched the area around 15 Mile Road and Kelly in Clinton Township where the 15-year-old disappeared.
“There was a sighting of Cody on Tuesday. So, at least we know he was alive on Tuesday,” his guardian Cheri Heaton told 7 Action News during Saturday's search.
Cody attends Fraser High School as a freshman in the special education program. He is emotionally impaired and has poor planning skills.
“I’m concerned someone may have picked him up and I would like my son home,” his mother Kelly Rowland said Saturday night. She said he vanished after taking out the garbage last Friday.
“He came home from school, had a conversation, a snack, cleaned out the litter boxes and took the garbage out and didn’t come back in,” said Rowland.
The family was worried Cody was in danger either because he met a stranger or was confused and hiding out somewhere. Since it had gotten much colder since he disappeared and he did not have a coat on, family members were afraid he could freeze to death.
