(WXYZ) - He has co-owned Shield's Pizza for almost 20 years, but for Peter Andoni, a startling diagnosis for his then 7-year-old son has him serving a new purpose.
“About 4 years ago my youngest...at the age of 7 was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and it was at that time that I became aware of the lack of healthy options," said Andoni.
Finding his son Alex healthy drink options after sports-- that his condition would allow-- was challenging so Peter created his own, shifting his focus from food to water.
“We do not have high fructose corn syrup, we don't have aspartame, sucrose, artificial syrup and we are gluten free and caffeine free," said Andoni.
He created "Twisted Water" for kids and "Wow Water" for adults.
