(WXYZ) - We've just learned of the passing of one of our former colleagues and a true friend to many here at Channel 7 WXYZ-TV in Southfield.
Former Action News reporter Jim Herrington died of complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis. He was 84 years old.
Herrington covered it all for 7 Action News, but his favorite topic was politics. Herrington covered governors, presidents and candidates.
He also hosted the public affairs program “Spotlight on the News” for 20 years.
Herrington’s broadcast career began when he served in the Navy. In 1948, he started working with the Armed Forces Radio Service while stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Prior to joining WXYZ-TV, Herrington worked as a newsman for WKNX-AM/TV in Saginaw. He also served as a sports production director for WNEM-TV in Saginaw.
