HAZEL PARK (WXYZ) - As if Bernard Kilpatrick doesn’t have enough to worry about with a federal racketeering trial scheduled for September. Now, his car has gone up in flames.
The Hazel Park Fire Marshall confirms that the father of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick owned the 2001 Nissan Maxima that caught on fire in the parking lot of the Kroger store at Nine Mile Road and John R on the Fourth of July.
The fire department responded and put the blaze out. The car had to be towed. The Fire Marshall also told 7 Action News that though it is not clear why the 11-year old car caught fire, there is nothing suspicious about it.
Kilpatrick, his son, and two others are scheduled to go on trial this fall on numerous federal charges stemming from what investigators termed the “Kilpatrick Criminal Enterprise” in court documents.
