WARREN, Mich., (WXYZ) - Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a good Samaritan.
He has been identified as 36 year-old George Danis of Troy, Mi.
They say it happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday night when a good Samaritan pulled over on westbound I-696 near Sherwood to help the victim of a crash, Angelica Difatta of Roseville.
Danis was standing next to Difatta when police say 44 year-old Sean Cunningham crashed into them with his Ford Escape. Danis was killed. MSP say he was thrown forward and pinned under his vehicle.
Police say both Difatta and Cunningham were hurt, but both have non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators say Difatta crashed her car because she was driving too fast on the wet roads. They are still trying to determine why Cunningham couldn't stop his car in time.
They don't know yet if alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
Meanwhile, loved ones of George Danis say it's no surpise that he stopped to help a stranger.
"That was George. He'd help anybody. He was a big teddy bear," says Mark Barton, Danis' father-in-law.
Barton says Danis was on his way home after visiting a friend. He'd just talked to his wife Marcie and said he was on his way home.
Family member say Danis was in between jobs. He leaves behind his wife Marcie and two kids, 9 year-old Eric and 5 year-old Samantha.
Family members say they need help with funeral expenses. If you'd like to support the Danis family, donations can be made at any Credit Union One. Donations can be made in the name of Marcie Danis.
