(WXYZ) - It's new research that sounds too good to be true. Could a chocolate a day keep the weight away?

A new study from the University of California, San Diego found those who ate chocolate on a regular basis had a lower body mass index, or BMI.

Researchers found chocolate could increase your metabolism and may offset the calories consumed.

Despite the sweet news, the study found adding a candy bar to a daily diet will not help you lose weight.

However, antioxidants found in chocolate could lead to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

The study is published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
