Study finds 1 in 23 kids thinks about committing suicide once a month

A new study finds an alarming number of kids think about committing suicide at least once a month.
Researchers surveyed more than 1,100 children between the ages of 10 and 17 years old.
They found 1 in 23 children said they thought about committing suicide at least once in the past month.
The study was published in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.
Researchers found some children were more at risk of suicidal thoughts than others.
Kids who were bullied, physically threatened or victimized by their peers once in the past year were twice as likely to have suicidal thoughts.
Sexual assault tripled the risk, researchers found.
The study also found physical and emotion abuse by a parent quadrupled the risk of suicidal thoughts among children.
Researchers pointed out that suicidal thoughts do not always lead to suicidal behavior, but it is an important warning sign.
