(WXYZ) - There's an urban legend that Twinkies can last practically forever.

But, the end of the company that makes them could come Friday morning.

Striking workers failed to return to Hostess factories by a 5:00 p.m. deadline Wednesday-- which the company said would signal the end of the 80-year-old snack cake.

Hostess brands has already filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy-- and warned that workers demands for more money would force the company into liquidation.
