(WXYZ) - Do you hate the scarf that Aunt Edna gave you? Does the sight of that fruitcake make you queasy?

A surprising number of people say it is okay to re-gift during the holidays. According to American Express, 79 percent of people surveyed say that re-gifting is acceptable during this time of year.

Only 58 percent of the people questioned answered that re-gifting is appropriate, sometimes.

21 percent say that it is never appropriate to pass along a present. When asked about their own behavior 24 percent admitted that they had re-gifted something that they received last season.

Etiquette experts say that it is acceptable to pass along a gift that you will never use. However, they say it is never appropriate to pretend that you actually purchased the merchandise.
