DETROIT (WXYZ) - If you're a parent of a Detroit Public Schools student, today could be an important day for you and your son or daughter.
Today is is the last day for Open Enrollment.
Parents and students who might be considering a school next year other than the neighborhood facility have to fill out an open enrollment form no later than today.
Every school will be having Open Enrollment all day long. In addition, the eight Parent Resource Centers will have "I'm In" celebrations from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Those celebrations will include raffles, special activities, and food. There will also be healthy eating demonstrations.
If parents want to make a closer inspection of some of the schools, there will be a free shuttle service that will take you there. The shuttles are available at three Parent Resource Centers:
- 9:30 a.m. at Osborn High school, 11600 E. 7 Mile Rd.
- Noon at the Detroit International Academy on Woodward, 9026 Woodward Ave.
- 2:30 p.m. at the Detroit Schools of Arts West-Langston Hughes Campus, 19501 Berg Rd.
Parents and students are also invited for breakfast at any school.
In addition to the Parent Resource Centers listed above:
-Central High School, 2425 Tuxedo,
-Cody High School, 18445 Cathedral,
-Marcus Garvey Academy, 2301 Van Dyke,
-Phoenix Elementary, 7735 Lane,
-Priest Elementary, 7840 Wagner.
The Open Enrollment program allows families to choose among the city's schools based on a particular need or desire. Perhaps you are seeking a school that focuses on a college prep curriculum, or athletics, or science, or perhaps performing arts. This program allows that choice.
