(WXYZ-Melvindale) - Right Now DTE crews are out working to get power restored to 14 thousand customers in metro-Detroit.

Several hundred of the outages are in the city of Melvindale. 

Fire crews  in Melvindale tell 7 Action News lightning hit, causing a power surge that burned through transformers and power lines.  In a matter of minutes they were called to ten downed lines.

One landed on a fence, charging the fence, a neighboring fence, and a garage.

Fortunately no one was hurt.

DTE estimates that power will be restored in the neighborhood sometime Thursday afternoon.
