(WXYZ) - A 34-year-old sky diver has died after falling out of control, striking a tree and then colliding with a person standing on the ground in Ray Township on Saturday evening.
The Michigan State Police say Kenneth Ryan Bernek and the 53-year-old woman that he struck were rushed to the hospital.
“They did do CPR on the scene on the individual,” said Lt. Michael Shaw with the Michigan State Police. “They transported him to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. The person on the ground received some non-life threatening injuries and she was also transported to the hospital to make sure everything was ok.”
We're told the woman is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
The Michigan State police will continue to investigate the accident and what could have caused Bernek to lose control.
Investigators are also trying to figure out if something was wrong with Bernek’s parachute equipment.
